Choosing the Right Passthrough Dishwasher

The key decision is throughput: entry-level passthrough dishwashers handle 60–80 racks per hour, while premium models from Classeq and Sammic reach 120 racks per hour — equivalent to up to 1,440 plates per hour. Match capacity to your peak service volume: a 100-cover restaurant typically requires 80–100 racks per hour minimum.

Break tank: mandatory for Category 5 establishments — schools, care homes, hospitals and nurseries. UK Water Regulations require a WRAS-approved Type A air gap break tank wherever there is a risk of backflow contamination. All break tank models in our range meet current WRAS standards. WRAS-approved products are listed on the Water Regulation Advisory Scheme register.

Water softener: hard water areas — broadly anything above 200 ppm — cause limescale build-up that shortens machine life and increases detergent costs. An integral water softener typically pays for itself within the first 12 months in affected UK regions. Check your local water hardness before ordering.

Drain pump: required when the waste outlet sits higher than the machine drain port — common in basement kitchens or when connecting to existing pipework. DC models are available with a drain pump as standard on most configurations.
