Choosing the Right Catering Griddle for Your Business

A commercial griddle is one of the most versatile pieces of equipment in any professional kitchen. Whether you run a busy restaurant, a kebab shop, a cafe or a mobile catering trailer, the right griddle can transform your cooking efficiency. Our range covers everything from compact electric countertop models to large gas griddles designed for high-volume cooking.

Gas vs Electric Catering Griddles

Gas griddles heat up quickly, recover temperature fast after loading food, and are preferred for high-output restaurant and takeaway kitchens. They require connection to natural gas or LPG supply and must be installed by a Gas Safe engineer. Electric griddles are easier to install — most plug into a standard 13amp socket — making them ideal for mobile catering, food trucks and premises without gas supply. Larger electric models require a 3-phase connection.

Griddle Plate Materials: Steel vs Chrome

Steel plates are robust, heat up evenly and are easy to season. They are the standard choice for kebab shops, burger restaurants and fish and chip shops. Chrome plates offer a more refined cooking surface with better heat transfer — ideal for delicate foods such as fish, eggs and vegetables. Chrome plates are also easier to clean and maintain a consistent non-stick surface over time.

Restaurant Griddle Sizes

We stock griddles ranging from 600mm single-burner models up to 1200mm five-burner units. For a busy restaurant griddle setup, a 750mm or 900mm unit typically provides the right balance of cooking surface and kitchen footprint. Food trailers and mobile catering setups often benefit from LPG-ready models with a natural gas conversion kit included.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a catering griddle cost?

Commercial catering griddles in our range start from around £90 for a compact electric model, up to £600+ for large multi-burner gas units. Price depends on size, fuel type and plate material. Steel plate models are generally more affordable than chrome plate equivalents.

Do I need a Gas Safe engineer to install a gas griddle?

Yes. By law, all gas appliances must be installed by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Failure to comply can void your warranty and poses a serious safety risk. Most of our LPG griddles also come with a natural gas conversion kit.

What is the difference between a griddle and a plancha?

Both use a flat heated surface, but planchas typically reach higher temperatures and are suited to searing and sealing meat. Griddles offer more even heat distribution and temperature control across the plate, making them more versatile for a wider range of catering applications.

Can I use a catering griddle in a food trailer?

Yes — many of our gas griddles are LPG-ready and widely used in catering trailers and food trucks. Compact countertop electric models are also a popular choice for mobile setups where a mains power connection is available.

How do I season a new griddle plate?

Apply a thin layer of high-smoke-point cooking oil across the plate. Heat to around 200°C, allow to cool, and wipe away excess oil. Repeat 2–3 times before first use. Regular seasoning extends the life of the plate and improves non-stick performance.
