CE and UKCA Marking Explained
CE and UKCA Marking Explained: What Buyers Need to Know.
In Short
CE and UKCA markings are the manufacturer’s legal declaration that a product meets essential safety, health and environmental rules. They confirm legal compliance with safety rules — they don’t rate the product’s quality or performance.
- CE – recognised across the EU/EEA and indefinitely in Great Britain.
- UKCA – the post-Brexit equivalent, valid only in Great Britain.
- CE + UKNI – required for Northern Ireland if a UK Approved Body is involved.
Just because you see one mark doesn’t mean it covers all markets — always check whether CE, UKCA or CE + UKNI applies for where you’re using the equipment
Why It Matters
- Safety: CE/UKCA marking also covers EMC (electromagnetic compatibility), making sure appliances won’t interfere with other equipment — or be disrupted by it — giving you confidence it’s safe for commercial use.
- Insurance: Certified equipment helps ensure your insurance remains valid if there’s ever an accident or fire.
- Compliance: Trading Standards can act against unmarked or non-compliant goods, so it pays to buy from a supplier who guarantees conformity.
- Warranty: With correctly certified products, your warranty protection stands — uncertified items often leave buyers with no recourse.
- Our new and graded products carry the appropriate CE or UKCA marking, so you can buy with confidence that compliance and safety are never compromised.
In short: buying from a trusted supplier who provides CE/UKCA-marked equipment protects your kitchen, your staff, and your business.
Quick Buyer Checklist
- Check the dataplate: Every compliant unit has CE or UKCA marking clearly shown on its rating label — usually on the rear or side panel.
- Check the paperwork: Manuals and packaging should repeat the mark and list the relevant legislation.
- Match the market: For Great Britain, look for CE or UKCA. For Northern Ireland, CE (or CE + UKNI if a UK Approved Body was used). We’ll confirm which applies for your unit.
- Think installation: Even a certified product can lose compliance if installed incorrectly. Always use qualified installers — and ask us if you’re unsure about site requirements.
Following this checklist means you avoid non-compliant imports and grey-market kit, and you can buy with confidence knowing your warranty and safety standards are protected.
